Stephan Van den Broucke est professeur ordinaire à l’Université catholique de Louvain depuis 2010, membre de l’Institut de recherche en sciences psychologiques (IPSY) et actuellement vice-doyen de la Faculté de psychologie et des sciences de l’éducation. Auparavant, il a occupé des positions à l’Institut flamand pour la promotion de la santé, l’Agence éxécutif pour la santé publique de la Commission européenne à Luxembourg, et l’Université de Maastricht au Pays-Bas.

Ses recherches portent sur la promotion de la santé, l’éducation de patients, la lutte contre les inégalités de santé, la littératie en santé, et le renforcement des capacités en santé publique. Dans ces domaines, il a supervisé un grand nombre de projets de recherche nationaux et internationaux, et rédigé plus de 100 publications scientifiques.

Il a enseigné aux étudiants et professionnels de différents disciplines aux universités en Europe, en Amérique latine, au Canada et en Asie. Il était conseiller pour la Commission européenne et ses agences, pour l’OMS, et pour la Open Science Foundation. Il est membre élu du comité exécutif de l’Union internationale pour la promotion et l’éducation à la santé (UIPES) et rédacteur associé de Health Promotion International.
